Dr Tania Mathias, Former MP for Twickenham
Dr Tania Mathias is a British Conservative politician, medical doctor, and former Member of Parliament for Twickenham (2015–2017). During her time in Parliament, she served on the Science and Technology Select Committee of the House of Commons.
She has lived in Twickenham for over sixteen years and previously served as a local councillor and school governor. In 2010, Mathias was elected to the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames as councillor for Hampton Wick. She was re-elected in 2014, but stepped down as a councillor shortly after becoming MP. In 2024, she stood as the Conservative candidate for Maidenhead following the retirement of Rt Hon Theresa May.
Before entering politics, Tania worked in the NHS and with humanitarian organisations abroad. She has served as a refugee officer for the UN in Gaza and provided medical care for patients with HIV, tuberculosis, and leprosy in Africa and Asia.
She continues to support health and humanitarian causes through advocacy and community engagement.
